A teacher centered classroom is a passive learning environment. A teacher runs the show while students receive information and recites information. The dominant role that the teacher plays leaves little room for students to be engaged in their learning process. Students are dictated and receptive but they are not creators or inventors. Their learning road map is set for them. They follow instructions only. The teacher runs the show and she earns the credit for the success of the students. A professional teacher can attract students to learn and to achieve the set targets but students will never be motivated.
An active learning environment is based on the belief that “students do while teachers observe”. Success is created by students based on the guidance of the teacher. Students investigate and conclude then reflect and hypothesis. The input of every student makes a difference. Students will be team players, collaborative classmates and supportive individuals. The success of the whole class will be considered a result of the collective efforts of all students. Active learning allow students to become responsible for their own learning.
