Sports games are angles

Learning Objective: Name and classify angles.

 

 

Duration: 20 min

 

 

Material:

 

 

  • pictures about their favorite sports. (Including photos of players while playing the sports).
  • Glue
  • Pencil
  • A3 papers

 

 

Activity Description:

 

 

  • Group students according to their favorite games (5 students/group).
  • Ask students to display the pictures, and to show how is the player moving by joining lines and rays.
  • Conclude that angles are formed by those differents pictures.
  • A skier holding his skiing board while jumping in the air
  • a player kicking the football
  • how the tennis ball will land
  • Then students have to categorize the angles into:
    • Acute angles measure less than 90 degrees
    • Right angles measure exactly 90 degrees
    • Obtuse angles measure less than 90 degrees
    • Straight angles measure exactly 180 degrees
  • At the end they can paste a picture next to each type of angles.
