Activity Description:

 

 

  • For this activity, ask students to research about the elevations of mountains peaks in the world as well as the depth of some valleys. Students will be expected to bring the pictures and information with them to the class.
  • In class, the teacher will use a masking tape to draw a line on the floor and to mark its middle by sea level (0 height).
  • Ask each student to choose one picture for a mountain or valley and to stand on the number line based on the height or depth of the picture he is holding.
  • Teacher will discuss the differences between below sea level and above sea level.

 

Above sea level is the opposite of below sea level

  • Top-bottom
  • Increase – decrease
  • Forward – backward
  • Positive – negative
