Learning Objective: Define and understand the terms: points, lines and plane

Activity Description:

 

 

To define the geometric terms, bring in real life examples and discuss them with the students. Below are some scenarios

• Locate a point:A point is like a star in the night sky. Like a spectacular in the endless sky. Points are unlike stars in having no size and no thickness. They need no space.
• A line:like the edge of a ruler that doesn’t end. If you try to draw a line with your ruler in a paper, the line will be thick enough for you to see. But a geometric line has no thickness at all, that it can hardly be seen.
• A plane:like a flat piece of land (like a football field) that extends forever. Imagine you can pick that field up and put it anywhere in the air, which you wish. You can turn it sideways or diagonally. The flat surface of the paper you have in hand could be considered a plane.

 

 

Intersection:

• Two lines:Imagine two edges of a ruler are to meet, where they would meet. They would meet at a point.
• Two planes: Imagine looking at the sea and at the sky. When they meet, where and how could they meet. They would meet at the far end of the sea that your eyes can see and that would be in a form of a line.
