Why to Change?

All calls have been focused on changing the education systems, the workplace, the leadership styles and…..and…and…..

What is wrong with the present practices? What is our aim for the future?

Pause for a second and think…..How did we arrive to the present situation? The answer is simple yet unclear for almost all of us…….The present is the result of the past. The past generation designed our current issues, problems and happiness. We are designing the headlines for the future generation who will either live joyfully or will blame it all on us………….

If currently we are unhappy with our present, then we have to think…… Are the enormous global issues a result of the previous generation lack of planning? Have they thought about all variables that play a major role in our lives? Have they thought about the environment when they built all those factors? Have they planned for the rapid population growth when designing the cities? Have they designed the education system based on data? Are the leadership decisions driven by data?

As pioneers in education, this is what we need to do now. Determine the target that you want to achieve…..determine the impact on all parties……. design a plan and specify all the responsibilities ……

Do not blindly plan to change. Do not say I want to lead my school differently, do not say i want to deliver my lesson differently….. Stop asking what is happening in other places around the world. Focus on what you are doing and improve it if you feel it will have a positive impact NOT to please others…..NOT to copy other people….. Celebrate your success when you achieve your targets and aim for higher goals.

On daily basis, I ask myself what did my interaction with people add to my professional development? What lessons have I learned?

We learn as we live…………but the lifelong learning happens ONLY when it is relevant to our practices.

Change if you are convinced that this change is beneficial……Change if this change will fix a problem that you were suffering from…..Change if this will make a difference…..Change to discover, to explore and to improve……

Think about the past practices in teaching and reflect on that based on your personal knowledge, experience and skills. Think about the present practices and evaluate the impact on students lifelong learning. Then plan for the future lessons to improve your performance.
